About Garbutt

Garbutt is a large residential and industrial suburb located to the west of Townsville Central Business District in Queensland and bypassed by the Bruce Highway.
Most notable to the area is the Townsville International Airport formerly known as Garbutt Airport, which is located here. Currently connecting passengers to Darwin, the east coast, Mt Isa and as far south as Melbourne, the airport is soon to operate flights to Bali and other international destinations.
Garbutt is also home to the RAAF Base Townsville headquarters for No 1 Wing Australian Air Force Cadets and along with Lavarack Barracks establishes Townsville as a key military centre.
Lightly commercial Garbutt has a small district servicing local Townsville called Domain Central, featuring many major home retail outlets such as Harvey Norman, Bunnings, A Mart, Anaconda, the Good Guys and more, and is only a short distance from the major Castletown Shopping World just outside the suburb.
Local amenities and conveniences are scattered through the area such as medical centres, cafés, takeaway eateries and also services relating to the airport such as hire car companies. It is home to Townsville Kart Club, Northern Beaches Lions AFL Club and the Townsville station of the Bureau of Meterology.
