Tindal is most known as the location of the Raaf Base Tindal Airport. Located just outside the town of Katherine in the Northern Territories, the air base is currently home to the No. 75 Squadron of the country as well as a number of non-flying units. The Katherine Tindal Civilian Airport is also located in the confines of the RAAF Base Tindal. The air base was originally built as Carson’s Airfield in 1942 and was constructed by the US Army to provide a base for the heavy bombers that targeted the Japanese occupants in Papua New Guinea and the Dutch East Indies. The air base is manned by the RAAF in cooperation with the Katherine Town Council.

One popular tourist destination is the nearby Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park, a sprawling landscape built from limestone that covers more than a thousand hectares. One of the remaining caves that are open to the public, the park offers a guided Tropical Woodland walk that takes you through the local fauna and flora that may be found in the area.
