Ashford is a small, rural village situated 57.5 kilometres north of Inverell close to the Queensland border. It is under the administration of the Inverell Shire local government area. Frazers Creek runs through the area and much of the area is reserved for cattle and sheep farming.
Ashford contains a central and pre-school. Pindari Lake and Severn River Nature Reserve is located 30.4 km southeast of the village. Arakoola Nature Reserve is located to the west.
