Portsmith is a suburb in the Cairns Region of Queensland. It was named after William Smith, one of the pioneers in the area. The industrial suburb was cut out from the residential suburb called Bungalow in 1973. Now, the boundary between the two suburbs is Hartley Street. Portsmith’s industries today include freezer facilities and seafood wharves.
One of the main attractions in Portsmith is Down Under Tours Australia. There are lots of things to do for tourists near Portsmith including day tours, wildlife experiences, white-water rafting, bungy jumping, hot air ballooning and tours of the Great Barrier Reef. Portsmith is also home to the Wilderness Challenge where visitors can go on 4WD tours of Australia’s tropical savannahs including Kimberley, Kakadu, Gulf Savannah and Cape York.
