Parramatta Park is a suburban town located in the local government area of the Cairns Regional Council in the state of Queensland. The suburb’s name was taken from the Parramatta suburb in Sydney. A subdivision of land in the 1880s led to the first recorded settlement in Parramatta Park. By the early 1900s, steady development took place. Today, the suburb has turned into a residential and recreational community with some commercial activity in the south-eastern part of Parramatta Park. Aside from several schools, Parramatta Park’s major landmarks features include the Barlow Park, Cairns Business College, Little Barlow Park, Parramatta Park, West Barlow Park and the Cairns Showground. Local industries and businesses in the suburb include pharmacies, retirement villages, newsagents and restaurants.
