Clifton Beach is a suburban town located in the local government area of Cairns Regional Council in the state of Queensland. The town’s name was derived from the Clifton area in Scotland. Historical records suggest that the earliest settlement in Clifton Beach took place since the 1880s. The coastal suburb’s land was generally used for sugarcane production. One of the oldest structures in the suburb is the Clifton Beach Post Office, which opened on June 2, 1969. The first stages of development in Clifton Beach became visible during the 1970s and went on at a fast-paced scale through the 1980s. Today, the town has progressed with several major features, including the Outback Opal Mine, Tobias Reserve, Edward Mann Park, Evergreen Park, Deadmans Gully Environmental Reserve, Clifton Beach, Clifton Village Shopping Centre and the Cairns Tropical Zoo.
