A suburb under the Sunshine Coast Region local government area of Queensland, Tanawha is situated directly south of Mons, 4.9 kilometres southwest of Buderim, 16.5 kilometres southwest of Sunshine Coast and 91.7 north of Brisbane. The Bruce Highway and Sunshine Motorway intersection at the eastern side of the suburb has a number of drive-in businesses. The town’s name is believed to be derived from a Maori word for a legendary monster. Tanawha is home to a handful of attractions, such as the Bellingham Maze on the Tanawha Tourist Drive (or Old Bruce Highway) and the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Garden. The Bellingham Maze, which was opened in 1993, has been one of the most popular attractions in the Sunshine Coast, and features various types of maze-themed activities for children and adults alike.
