A coastal suburb under the local government area of Sunshine Coast Region in Queensland, Bokarina is situated 9 kilometres north of Caloundra, 12 kilometres south-southeast of Maroochydore and 12.7 kilometres southeast of Sunshine Coast. Bokarina is among the several suburbs that were situated in an area once called Kawana Island, which was later renamed Kawana Waters. The name “Bokarina” was chosen upon the request of Alfred Grant Pty Ltd, believing that it was an Aboriginal word for “middle.” This was in reference to the town’s establishment halfway through the development scheme of Kawana Waters in 1969.
