A suburb of Hervey Bay under the Fraser Coast Region local government area of Queensland, Kawungan is situated 122 kilometres southeast of Bundaberg, 35.4 kilometres northeast of Maryborough and 291 kilometres north of Brisbane. It is bordered by the suburbs of Scarness and Pialba to the north, Torquay and Wordunna to the east, Urraween to the west and Nikenbah to the south. The suburb’s name is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal word that describes a place of magpies.
