The Caves is a suburb located in Central Queensland. The nearest urban centre is 23 kilometres away in Rockhampton. The suburb is named after the Capricorn Caves, a popular tourist destination that was first discovered way back in 1882. As one of the longest-running attractions in Queensland, the Capricorn Caves draw tourists all-year round. Some seasons see tourists surrounded by insectivorous bats that live in the caves. Tours in the caves usually run from 9am to 4pm, with the Cathedral Tour lasting an hour and spanning about a kilometre. For the more thrill-seeking types, you can choose the adventure option at the end of the tour where you will be treated with a zigzag water passageway with candlelight illuminating the way.
