Pine Creek is a town situated in Northern Territory’s Katherine region. In 1870, the creek near the area was lined with pine trees that grew from the banks. Workers first crossed the creek when they were constructing the Overland Telegraph. A year after, the workers discovered gold while digging holes, which started the gold rush in Australia. With the discovery of gold, the town was soon filled with miners, majority of whom where immigrants from China who were brought to the area for cheap labour.

Pine Creek is host to a number of annual events to promote area. Some of these include the Pine Creek Races, Pine Creek Rodeo, Didgeridoo Jam and the Goldrush Festival.
