Berkeley is one of Wollongong’s most populous suburbs. Due to its location between the hills and Lake Illawarra, Berkeley was historically a farming community but was changed to a vast piece of land used in public housing. There is still some public housing existing in certain parts of the suburb. Berkeley has a good balance of everything that makes the Wollongong district. There is a small shopping area in the suburb that has a supermarket, a pub, a local post office as well as a petrol station. Baseball fields and basketball courts may be found in the Fred Finch Park for those looking for outdoor activities.
