A suburb under the local government area of Byron Shire in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Broken Head is situated 8 kilometres south of Byron Bay, 14.2 kilometres north of Lennox Head, 15 kilometres east of Bangalow and 764 kilometres northeast of Sydney. A small residential township surrounded by rural lands and rainforests, it is home to the Broken Head Nature Reserve, which can be reached through the Seven Mile Beach Road. It sits on the land of the Arakwal People of the Aboriginal Bundjalung group, and was established in order to ensure the preservation of the littoral rainforest in the area, a rare coastal subtropical rainforest. The Broken Head Nature Reserve features walking tracks, fishing spots and bird watching areas. The northernmost tip of the suburb meets the southernmost end of Tallow Beach, which has good patrolled swimming spots. Accommodations, camping facilities and day use facilities are available in the Broken Head Caravan Park and Suffolk Park area.
