Piambong is a small town within the local government area of the Mid-Western Regional Council in the Central West region of New South Wales. The area is adjacent to the Castlereagh Highway. The closest airport to Piambong is Mudgee Airport, which is about 20 kilometres away from the city centre of Piambong. The town’s local government area, Mid-Western Regional Council, was established in May 2004 and includes the former Mudgee Shire Council and some parts of the Merriwa and Rylstone Shires. The main industries in the local government area are mostly agricultural and coal mining. Some historical towns are also located in the area. In fact, a historic building in Gulgong that was built in 1910 was a former shire headquarters.
