Gulgong is a suburban town located in the local government area of the Mid-Western Regional Council. Its name was taken from the term given by the Wiradjuri tribe. The town was originally known to be a gold mining site. It boasts of a historic appeal with various artefacts and structures dating back to the 19th century, which makes it a famous destination for tourists. A majority of Gulgong’s cultural heritage has been preserved through establishments and attractions such as the Prince of Wales Opera House and the Gulgong Pioneer Museum. The museum holds a significant set of antique pieces, including kitchen tools and buildings that are on display. Other landmarks near the suburb include the Yarrobil National Park. Aside from tourism, other means of local livelihood include wheat and wool production, coal mining and wine manufacturing.
