The purpose of Thai massage is to bring the body, mind, and spirit into a state of balance and harmony, providing an opportunity for deep self-healing. The practitioner always begins the session with a blessing, a moment of centering and connection, asking for assistance from the lineage of teacher (God, The founder Dr. Jivaka, Buddha, or her own personal teacher). She asks for healing for the receiver, herself, anyone else she knows who needs healing, the world and the earth. This practice helps the therapist and receiver to enter a state of meditation, to be mindful of prana (energy and breathing), creating an empty vessel to receive healing energy and to achieve freedom from attachment. During the Massage, you lie on a soft, padded cushion fully clothed with natural cotton clothes provided. Your body is placed into yoga postures while simultaneously using combinations of rhythmic stretching, compression, rocking, and shifting. Your body will gently go places it could not during a yoga class or solitary stretching. Like Yoga, it uses the breath to access deeper layers of your body & mind for healing & toning. Working with 10 main energy lines & the primary acupressure points on these lines makes it possible to treat a whole range of imbalances resulting from disturbances in the flow of Prana(energy). By working on the skin, muscles, organs and the skeletal structure, blood and lymph circulation are increased and toxins are removed from the tissues. It will leave you feeling relaxed and invigorated.

My name is Jay Andrews. I am the business owner and remedial massage therapist for Coastal Balance Remedial Massage Therapy. I am passionate about massage therapy and the role it can play in helping others to manage and alleviate their pain and would like to share with you all a little about myself and my journey into the world of massage. About me Massage has played a significant role in my health and wellness journey for most of my adult life. As an active teenager I enjoyed playing rugby league and weightlifting in the gym. Diagnosed with scoliosis in my teens, coupled with the impact of weight training and football, I started experiencing back pain and muscular discomfort. I turned to massage therapy as a way to manage and alleviate my symptoms. After leaving school I started working in various roles, most involving heavy lifting, causing compression upon the spine, and long periods in stationary seated positions, causing poor posture.This further impacted my muscular health and massage was vital in assisting me to maintain my body to continue to undertake my employment duties. After a workplace injury, where I herniated a disc in my lumbar spine, I knew that I needed a change and chose to focus on a new career path. Massage was the logical choice. I had always been interested in the mechanics of the body and how massage therapy could be used as a tool to improve people's overall health and well being. Now was the time to embark on a new journey into helping others and Coastal Balance Remedial Massage was born. I currently work from my own clinic and a reputable osteopathy practice. I thoroughly enjoy assisting people on their own wellness journeys and through massage I can minimise muscular tension, reducing pain and inflammation, increase blood circulation, flexibility and range of motion and decrease stress and anxiety.
