A town in Far North Queensland, Mareeba is located on the Atherton Tableland and falls under the jurisdiction of the local government area of the Shire of Mareeba. It sits 417 metres above sea level at the junction of Granite Creek, Emerald Creek and Barron River. Before the Europeans settled in the area around the town, it was inhabited by the Muluridji people who hunted around Mount Carbine, Mareeba, Rumula and Woodville.
