The harvested timbers were stripped of their bark to make them slippery, making it easier to push them over the “chutes” at the eastern side of the cliff. The site of the present-day town – the Lander’s Chute – was the base region of these “chutes” and where the harvested logs would be collected for transporting to the timber mills. Today, the town is mainly residential and surrounded by forested areas, with a few farming lands and small businesses scattered in the area.
