Yarwun is a small suburban town located in the local government area of the Gladstone Regional Council in the state of Queensland. One of the oldest and historic structures in the suburb is the Yarwun Provisional School, which opened on June 5, 1906. It was later renamed in January 1, 1909 as the Yarwun State School. By March 2005, an alumina refinery plant was built in the suburb. In 2012, the facility went through an expansion plan that included a 160 megawatt co-generation facility.
The town has a rich historical background depicted in a number of heritage-listed sites such as the Yarwun-Targinnie Co-op store, which is situated at 60 Butler Street. Local businesses and services near the suburb include water cartage, florists, quarries, building contractors and transport services.
