Tourists who want to experience recreational activities like canoeing, fishing, bushwalking and horse-riding can visit the Wyllie Park in Petrie. The town of Petrie was named after Tom Petrie, a highly regarded member of the community who excelled in working alongside the local Aboriginal inhabitants. Today, Petrie is a suburban village that is home to a handful of housing developments where new families can move in. The town has a retail and commerce centre at the heart of it where various roads like Gympie Road, Anzac Avenue and the Dayboro Road converge. There are schools from primary to high school as well as colleges like the Mt. Maria College.
