Possum Creek is a town within the local government area of the Byron Shire located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. The shire is adjacent to the Tasman Sea and covers an area of 566.7 square kilometres. It was named after Cape Byron, which was named by Captain Cook after Admiral John Byron. Created in 1906, Byron Shire was one of the 134 local government areas in New South Wales. Possum Creek is known as the home of the Possum Creek Eco Lodge, an 85-acre property located on Cedarvale. The lodge boasts of an abundance of wildlife, with wild turkeys, goannas, wallabies, native pigeons, cat birds and other animals roaming around. The lodge also has an organic farm with macadamias and lemon myrtle.
