Not everyone likes to showcase their daily life to the neighbourhood and privacy blinds are an excellent solution.

If you're no exhibitionist and feel safer with window covering blinds that restrict passersby from gazing inside your home, roller blinds are a common privacy solution. If you go for a sheer blind combination with sunscreen blinds or roman blinds then you can enjoy the view when you want with complete privacy when you need.

Which blinds are best for privacy?

Roller blinds come in a full panel of fabric that is great for completely blocking out the view. While slat blinds are poplar they leave out edges and angles from which peeking can be easy. Roller blinds are easily customised - take a look at our helpful guide on how to cut roller blinds to size.

Blockout blinds

These blinds do exactly as they suggest. They let no light in when they are drawn giving you complete privacy when you want it. These usually come ready-made and suit your windows if the the sizes are regular.

Sunscreen blind

If you prefer a bit of light filtering then the sunscreen blinds are what you need. These allow a bit of light to seep through without allowing a full view of the room.

Roman blinds

These blinds are also great for privacy. They even restrict sunlight from creeping in and can be great for summers. The roman blinds come in a nice pleated pattern which is great if you're looking for a bit of design in the room.

Do privacy blinds work at night?

It mostly depends on the type of fabric you use at home. If the fabric of your blinds is thick that doesn't allow sunlight in the morning, chances are no-one can see in regardless of time of day or night. If your home blinds come in sheer fabric that lets in sunlight then at night a shade or silhouette of a person can be seen from the outside. Occasionally people choose to use blinds instead of shutters for privacy.

During the day you can use the sheer types in your home and get the light airy effect in the room. At night you can draw out the thick blinds and block out the view of all people.

If you live in a suburban home you will enjoy privacy from walking pedestrians or anyone else.
