Why do pets need to be sedated or anaesthetised to have radiographs taken?

When we have radiographs (X-rays) taken the radiographer asks us to keep perfectly still, often in unnatural positions. Most pets would never lie still enough, in the correct position, for us to take good quality radiographs required to diagnose their condition. Sedation and anaesthesia allow us to get the most useful radiographs possible.

Our family have been using this vet surgery for 20 years and would never go anywhere else. David and his team are wonderful with Biscuit & Arnott (beagles). They have the biggest love for animals. We can't recommend David enough, as a vet he is exceptional. The girls are absolutely amazing too. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

Absolutely amazing vet. All vet doctors were so kind and thorough. The vet nurses were so helpful and caring. Although our Berkley had such an unfortunately accident that left us so scared and sad, the team at Maryborough vets just made us feel so much better and did such an incredible job ensuring Berkley was looked after super quick. He is on his way to a full recovery with all thanks to Dr David and the team. Cannot thank them enough and would 100% recommend to anyone.

Thank you to David and his team for the exemplary care and respect they treated us with. Our experience with this vet is possibly the best we have had in our life of owning pets, some 59 years. Up until now we have been travelling two hours to receive veterinary services but from here on in this is where we will go!

What does a professional dental clean involve?

The assessment may also include a physical exam, blood tests and urine tests to ensure they are healthy prior to having an anaesthetic.
