About
Koala Conservation Australia Inc, trading as The Koala Hospital, is a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation facility that specialises in caring for orphaned and injured koalas. Our aim is to rescue, rehabilitate and release koalas back to their home range if possible. The Koala Hospital is also a scientific research and education centre and a popular tourist attraction. The Koala Hospital is situated in the grounds of the Macquarie Nature Reserve in Lord Street, Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia. We have a 24 hour rescue line so if you see an injured or distressed koala please call us on 6584 1522. Between 200 and 250 koalas are admitted through the Hospital every year. Apart from Chlamydia, motor vehicle accidents and dog attacks are the most common cause of injuries sustained. The Koala Hospital consists of a treatment room, 8 Intensive Care Units, 6 outdoor intensive care units and 33 rehabilitation yards, many of which have trees for koalas to learn to climb as part of the rehabilitation process. Koalas in the rehabilitation yards and intensive care units are not visible to the public. The Hospital is open every day (except Christmas Day) and visitors are welcome at any time between 8.00 am and 4.30 pm. A free guided tour is conducted every afternoon at 3.00 pm. This guided tour takes visitors around the exhibition yards where a volunteer tour guide gives an informative talk explaining why each koala patient has come into the hospital, the treatment and the outcome for the koala. A brief explanation of basic koala biology is also covered by the volunteer guide who is always available to answer questions. While the tour is in progress other volunteers within the yards are feeding the koalas. All of this is easily visible by the visitor and most of the outside exhibition yards are wheelchair accessible. We rely heavily on funds raised through our Adopt A Wild Koala Program; donations; bequests and fund-raising activities. Bookings Online!

The Koala Hospital is such an interesting place to visit. You can see the structure where they check injured koalas and the permanet koala residents that cannot go back to the wild. They also have a big areas of koalas you cannot see cause they are in rehabilitation. At 3pm they offer a free tour and give you info about koala and how they take care about koalas. Very interesting. You can also adopt a koala which i think is very helpful for these passionate people that help koalas for free. It is a great learning experience and eye opener into rehabilitation for koalas. A must see
