Northern Beaches Veterinary Hospital, in Rural View, is Mackay's award-winning animal care centre. Our friendly, qualified staff are not only medically knowledgeable and experienced, they are truly tuned in to the bonds that form between pets and their owners. X-rays, ultra-sounds, endoscopes, an in-house laboratory… these are all at our disposal to help your furry or feathered friend regain their vitality. Bring your pet to us for regular checks. In that regard, pet dentistry is sometimes an overlooked aspect that can have a decisive impact on health. Timely prevention is always a wise plan. We provide general grooming services to keep your pet's coat in top condition and help prevent eye and ear infections. We also maintain vaccinations and look after everything for our clients, from de-sexing to obstetrics. To get your young ones off to a good start, we have a puppy pre-school. I recently visited Northern Beaches Vets with my beloved bearded dragon, hoping for professional care and attention. However, I left feeling utterly disappointed and concerned for my pet's well-being. Despite expressing my worries about my dragon's health, the vet at assured me that everything was fine. Trusting their expertise, I left without a second thought. However, my concerns only grew as my dragon's condition failed to improve. Thankfully, I sought a second opinion from another vet hospital, where they discovered significant liver damage that had gone unnoticed by Northern Beaches. This negligence has not only caused unnecessary suffering for my pet but also shattered my trust in them. I cannot in good conscience recommend them, I urge others to seek alternative veterinary care for their beloved reptiles.

Love this Veterinary Hospital so compassionate, understanding and a joy to go to. Highly recommend them as they are the best Vets to go to in Mackay . The staff are awesome!!!

Recently i had to make a horrible call to say my beautiful 17.5 year old baby was gone. I needed help and they put me in straight away to make the arrangements that i wanted all along. They helped me out, kept me calm, gave me plenty of hugs and much needed tissues.. I could not thank your team enough for your time and understanding, while i was a mess, thank you Julianne and the team so much

Dr Lemmon was recommended by a my daughter's employers who run a spelling complex for Race Horses. Unfortunately our horse Casper hurt his leg so we needed to call a Vet. We are all so happy we called Dr Lemmon! There was none of that condescending rubbish we are used to. Just big warm genuine smiles! Exactly what we needed to help put our minds at ease in an upsetting situation. Not long after our cat was bitten by a paralysis tick. As with our first meeting all the staff were caring, helpful and very professional. Dr Lemmon and his team have the best 'bed side manner' I've come across not to mention the follow up care! Dr Lemmon asked my daughter to send pics of our horses leg to check on healing... Who does that nowadays? These guys go above and beyond all my expectations so of course I've recommended them to all my family and friends

Northern Beaches Veterinary hospital is wonderful I have been taking my cat there 4 years & I would not go anywhere else the staff are wonderful I have never ever had a problem with this vet they know how important my cat is 2 me & they take good Care of him. I have recommend this veterinary clinic 2 all my friends which I know they take there animals there & they all say great things about the staff & doctors.

Just like to let everyone know that I am now so disappointed and disgusted to say I take my dog here. I have recently found a lost dog and thought taking the dog to the local emergency vet hospital would be the right thing to do and that they would hold her for at least a day or 2 before calling the local pound for them to take her. To be told "No we don't take strays in because we don't know what vaccinations the dog has had, so just go put it back where you found her" is an absolute disgrace. The first place most people call when a loved pet has been lost is their local vet and to be turned away when an animal is in need of shelter is a joke. Safe to say I'll never be returning to this so called clinic again. If it was your dog lost, would you be impressed if the person who found your loved pet was told to just put it on the street, I think not. So think before taking your pet to this heartless clinic

Dear Melanie, As the principal of the Northern Beaches Veterinary Hospital, I feel the need to reply to you to clarify this situation. It is not and has never been our intention to turn animals away. We do accept stray dogs that are microchipped and/or injured. Also, where possible, we try to take all stray animals, microchipped or not, on weekends when the council pound is closed. However, there is certain protocol that has to be followed and with good reason. I'm sure you can appreciate that stray dogs that are brought to us with no microchip and no injury, put a strain on our hospital and limits our kennel space which is reserved for injured and/or sick animals. After all, we are a hospital not a refuge. Also, importantly, the fact that we do not know the vaccination history of a stray dog can put our patients at risk and also the health of the stray dog in question. The stray dog you brought here had no microchip and no injury, and it was on a Monday morning during council's opening hours. Therefore, protocol would be for you to either take the dog back to where you found her and perhaps do a door knock, foster her yourself, or to take her to the council pound and then they try to locate her owners. Of course we would list her on our lost and found and also put her on our facebook page, to help reunite her with her family. The council pound is generally one of the first places owners contact when searching for their lost dog. Kate was trying to explain these options to you but you would not allow her to finish. It is a shame that you find it so easy to desecrate and judge my practice after this one incident without knowing all the facts. Each year we treat hundreds of sick and injured wildlife at no cost and we do indeed take in dozens of stray animals which we feed and treat accordingly until owners can be found.
