About Yungaburra

Yungaburra is a small town on the Atherton Tableland. Before the settlement, the area where Yungaburra stands today was inhabited by 16 indigenous groups. Settlers arrived in 1891. The town was named Yungaburra after the arrival of the railway in 1910. A year after, the population of the indigenous groups decreased by 20 percent because of the loss of their habitat and their struggle with the early settlers.
Today, Yungaburra’s economy depends on tourism. Yungaburra holds a number of yearly events such as the Yungaburra Folk Festival. The Yungaburra Markets are also open to locals and visitors on the last Saturday of each month. Yungaburra houses a total of 18 heritage-listed sites including the Special Glass Co. Shop, St. Marks Anglican Church, Lake Eacham Hotel and the St. Patricks Catholic Church.
