A rural village under the local government area of Tablelands Region in the Far North Region of Queensland, Tarzali is situated approximately 9 kilometres south of Malanda, 9 kilometres north of Moregatta, 28.9 kilometres southeast of Atherton, 61.8 kilometres southwest of Gordonvale and 1,684 kilometres northwest of Brisbane. The town’s name is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal expression that describes a local eucalyptus species. Tarzali began as a closer-settlement on the fertile timber harvesting areas of the Atherton Tableland. Its neighbouring town of Malanda was surveyed for township in 1909, then was reached by the Tableland railway the following year, and finally arrived in Tarzali in 1916. Today, the predominantly rural community is home to the Tarzali Lakes Aquaculture Centre, which prides itself on a number of fun activities for children and families such as fishing, platypus tours, fish feeding, camping, aqua golf, nocturnal tours and bonfire nights.
