Tewantin is a suburb of Noosa on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It borders Doonella Lake on the Noosa River. It is the departure point for access to the famous North Shore beach drive, which goes all the way to Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island. Memorial Avenue runs through the centre of town.
Tewantin was originally a timber town and its name is derived from the Aboriginal word meaning “dead logs”.
However it is now a pretty suburban area that attracts tourists, surrounded by water life and activities and river themed restaurants where seafood is plentiful.
Noosa Shire Council is located here servicing many areas located on the Sunshine Coast.
Poinciana Avenue the main thoroughfare, has a range of shops, café’s, eateries and a town square and houses the historic pub, “The Royal Mail”. The road displays an ANZAC memorial and leads to the Tewantin RSL, which holds a strong legacy towards Australia’s history in war.
Renowned to the suburb is the popular Noosa Marina, catering to locals and tourists alike with an idyllic shopping and dining precinct including 8 superb restaurants overlooking the picturesque river. The 40 berth Marina transforms at 8am on a Sunday buzzing with market stalls and live music where locals enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.
The Tewantin Forest Reserve, set in the bush surrounding Mount Tinbeerwah is completely protected and promises tourists great native wildlife viewing with picnic tables and BBQ’s to relax and spend the day.
Tewantin Noosa Golf Course is ranked as one of the best on the Sunshine Coast and home to koalas and kangaroos with a great clubhouse and restaurant.
