Shelly Beach is a suburban town located in the local government area of the Sunshine Coast Region in the state of Queensland. The suburb’s name was supposedly derived from the presence of huge number of shells along the Shelly Beach’s shoreline. The start of settlement activity in Shelly Beach occurred in the 1860s. During this time, the land was primarily used for agriculture and grazing. Among the historical buildings in the suburb include the first hotel in Caloundra in 1885. Today, the suburb has grown into a mixed-use area for residential, industrial and commercial purposes. Major features near and within Shelly Beach include the Bulcock Beach, Caloundra Multi Sports Ground, Hardie Burzacott Wildflower Reserve, The Events Centre and the Ben Bennett Botanical Park.
