A rural village under the local government area of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Long Flat is located 49.2 kilometres west of Port Macquarie, 63.5 kilometres southwest of Kundabung, 27.8 kilometres north of Comboyne, 133 kilometres southeast of Walcha and 402 kilometres north of the state capital of Sydney. The Oxley Highway passes through the northern side of the town, near and parallel to the undulating Hastings River, which also serves as the northern border of the village. Long Flat is a mostly agricultural region surrounded by forested spots and farm lands, its main industries being dairy farming and beef cattle breeding. Even so, a number of events draw visitors to the village. The Long Flat Pub Run, which is held every last weekend of November, is an annual event for motorcyclists from all over New South Wales and Queensland. One of the largest campdrafting events in the state is held in Long Flat in August each year, while the long-running Sea Food Day held every first Saturday of December draws people from surrounding towns such as Wauchope and Port Macquarie.
