West End is a suburban town located in the local government area of the City of Townsville in the state of Queensland. The town serves as the home for the first community cemetery. During World War II, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) occupied the Greent Street bunker, which is now more commonly known as the SES building. West End is also known to be a culturally diverse place as it has a variety of heritage-listed sites, including the Currajong, the West End Cemetery, the RAAF Operations Building Site, the Townsville and District Education Centre and Memorial Gates, the Townsville Showground, the West End Hotel and the Wolverton timber residence. These historic sites help attract local and foreign tourists to the suburb.
