The history behind Trebonne’s name””derived from Trebonne Creek””was reportedly given by sugar planter Leon Burguez, who lived most likely in the 1870s at Gairloch, based on the Queensland Government’s property details. Listed as a township within the local government area of Shire of Hinchinbrook, the suburban community has a few heritage-listed sites such as the Pelota Mano Court. This recreational and entertainment structure is an important part of the area’s culture and history, particularly as a rare symbol of the existence of individuals with Basque heritage in Queensland. The court still stands today, although there is no sign of development on its surrounding property.
