About Ingham

Ingham is a suburban town located in the local government area of the Shire of Hinchinbrook in the state of Queensland. It was established in 1864; became a shire in 1879; and has been the service hub for several sugarcane farms. The town’s name was derived from William Ingham, who pioneered sugarcane production in the suburb during the 1870s. Among the major features in Ingham include the Victoria Sugar Mill, which is the largest of its kind in Australia. Aside from sugarcane production, local industries in the suburb include cattle, fishing, timber, farming and tourism. There are many tourist attractions in Ingham, including the TYTO Regional Art Gallery, the Hinchinbrook Shire Library and heritage-listed sites such as the Gairloch Bridge, 5 Lynch Street and the Ingham Court House.
