A small coastal locality under the administration of the Shire of Hinchinbrook local government area in North Queensland, Forrest Beach is situated 16 kilometres southeast of Ingham, 85 kilometres northwest of Townsville and 1,195 kilometres northwest of Brisbane. While the locality sits next to the Coral Sea to its east, the waters are sheltered by the Orpheus and Palm island group further east. The residential area is concentrated close to the beach, while the farmlands are situated inland toward the western part of the locality. Forrest Beach is also sometimes referred to as Allingham, a name that came into use later in commemoration of the Allingham family, the European pastoral pioneers in the area. The locality’s seven-kilometre stretch of sandy beach on the northern end of Halifax Bay is patrolled by the Forrest Beach Surf Life-Saving Club and has an enclosure with stinger protection for swimmers. A popular recreational spot among beach-goers in Northern Queensland, the town also has several amenities geared for travellers, including a caravan park, motel, hotel, surf club, barbecue area and boat and ramp facilities.
