A small residential suburb under the administration of the City of Townsville local government area in Queensland, Yabulu is located 18.3 kilometres north of Alice River, 24.8 kilometres northwest of Townsville central business district and 86.4 kilometres south of Ingham. The Bruce Highway passes through the southwestern portion of the suburb, while the northeastern portion faces the Halifax Bay. Its name is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal word that describes grass. Primarily an industrial town, Yabulu houses the Palmer Nickel and Cobalt refinery, a major refinery owned by Clive Palmer and operated by Queensland Nickel. Aside from small businesses dotting the suburb, Yabulu also has a caravan park that services travellers passing through the town. Recreation centres and parks within close proximity to the town include The North Queensland Equestrian Centre and Dune Bushland Beach.
