Idalia is a suburban town located in the local government area of the City of Townsville in the state of Queensland. The town has been a light industrial suburb, but the Fairfield Waters subdivision development project has led to a rapid building expansion in Idalia. Some of the tourist attractions and famous landmarks in the suburb include heritage-listed sites such as the Ross River Meatworks Chimney. The building is considered the 32nd highest structure in Australia. In August 2009, it was recorded in the Queensland Heritage Register.
Apart from tourism, there are other local business and services that help drive economic revenue and employment in Idalia. These industries include building contractors, child care centres, retail stores, landscape contractors and designers, cafes and beauty salons.
