Abergowrie is a rural town under the local government area of the Shire of Hinchinbrook in North Queensland. The town sits near the confluence of Gowrie Creek and the Herbert River. Abergowrie was named by James Atkinson in 1883, after he selected the region for farming. In the 1930s, much of the land at Abergowrie was cleared for cane farming.
The St Teresa’s College catholic school has been serving the Abergowrie community since 1933, and continues to boast a thriving school community. A state school is also found in Abergowrie town.
Abergowrie is located 7.3km from Mount Facing, and the nearest train station is at Conn (27km away).
