A rural town under the local government area of Toowoomba Region in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Greensmount is located 31 kilometres south of Toowoomba, 45 kilometres east of Pittsworth, 57.1 kilometres north of Warwick and 156 kilometres west of the state capital of Brisbane. The town was previously known as Greenmount West and Emu Creek prior to that. European settlement in the area started in the late 1860s with the McIntyre Family and other land selectors, who established farms at a spot called Emu Creek located about 7 kilometres east of present-day Greenmount. Today, Greenmount is largely a residential and agricultural town, with various farming activities still the chief source of income of its residents. Places of interest in Greenmount include the former Cambooya shire offices, a memorial hall, a heritage-listed war memorial, a hotel and the Violet Brodie Park.
