Clermont is located north of the capital city of Queensland, Brisbane. The first settler arrived in 1854 and the first sheep runs were established from 1856 to 1857. Clermont holds the distinction of being the first settlement in the tropics of Queensland. In its early years, Clermont prospered from the gold and copper found within its boundaries. Today, the Copperfield site, which is located four kilometres south of the town, serves as a testament to the prosperous mining era that helped build the settlement that used to be called Hood’s Lagoon.
