Mermaid Waters is a suburban town located in the local government area of Gold Coast City in Queensland. The town got its name from the Mermaid cutter ship that Australian surveyor John Oxley used upon reaching the area. In 1823, Oxley arrived at the suburb and originally called it Mermaid Beach. The town eventually adopted its existing name and is currently a residential suburb.
