A suburb of Maryborough under the Fraser Coast Region local government area of Queensland, Tinana is located 4.5 kilometres west of Maryborough central business district, 37.8 kilometres southwest of Hervey Bay and 251 kilometres northeast of Brisbane. It is surrounded by the Mary River to its west and north, which also separates it from Maryborough. The river then merges with Tinana Creek to its east, which also serves as the border between Tinana and Bidwill to its east. The suburb is also named after the creek, which in turn was said to be named by surveyor William Labatt in 1852 after a Maori chief named Tinanah. Tinana was a separate town before it became a suburb of Maryborough.
