The rural town of Wondai is found in Queensland in the region of South Burnett. The name of the town is from the Aboriginal word for “native dog” or “wild dog” to describe the dingo. Wondai is located 170 kilometres northwest of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland. The town is witness to a growing wine industry, while its more established industries include grains, dairy and beef production. Secondary industries include joinery works and tile and brick making. The residents of Wondai have direct access to recreational facilities such as bowling alleys, swimming pools, golf courses and a racecourse. One of the most popular tourist attractions is the artificial lake that came about after the damming of the Boyne River. Tourists can learn more about the town when they visit the heritage museum and tourist information centre.
