Stanwell is a suburban town located in the local government area of the Rockhampton Regional Council in the state of Queensland. Dairy production, quarrying and railroad-related work were some of the various forms of livelihood amongst the early settlers. One of the oldest structures in the suburb is the Stanwell State School, which has been open since November 7, 1873. Around 1874, a postal receiving office opened in Stanwell, and a post office opened in October 1880. The Stanwell Power Station is considered to be an important part of the local power supply. It was one of the biggest industrial projects in Queensland during the time of its construction in 1993. Local businesses and services in Stanwell include food and general stores, livestock transport services and hot water systems.
