Baree is a small suburban town in the Rockhampton Region. The history behind the town’s name is considered to be derived from an Aboriginal word that means 'crooked creek or timber.’ In 1917, the first post office opened in Baree and was operational until its closure in 1975. Some of the other historic buildings in the area include the Baree School of Arts, which is a heritage-listed site. Completed in 1910, the antique structure is made of timber and served as a symbol of holistic development within the community. It was used over the past nine decades for different recreational events and social gatherings such as dance festivals, wedding occasions, parties and other leisure activities.
