The Range is a large suburb in the Rockhampton central business district of Queensland. Located south west of the Bruce Highway and the Fitzroy River The Range is a populated area, mostly residential with numerous educational and medical facilities in its bounds.
Based in the The Range, and founded in 1881, the heritage-listed Rockhampton Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational school catering to students from Early Learning through to Year 12. With approximately 350 boarding students, it is the largest co-educational boarding school in Queensland. The school has undergone recent upgrade development to dormitories for year 7 boys and girls.
The girls residences from The Cathedral College, a Roman Catholic co-educational and boarding school that accommodates students from year 7 through to year 12 caters to boarders that attend the main campus residing in the neighbouring suburb of Allenstown.
St Peters Catholic Primary established in 1934, caters from children from Prep to year 7 currently and a major campus of the Central Queensland University is also located here.
Rockhampton Base Hospital along with the Mater Hospital with the beautiful heritage listed “Kenmore” purchased by the Sisters of Mercy in 1915 services the greater Rockhampton region.
The Range borders the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens, regarded as among the best in regional Australia. A tropical paradise with palms, cycads, and ferns, some over 100 years old provide the perfect location for locals to relax with the gardens now catering for weddings, private functions and guided tours.
