Goovigen is a small suburban town located in the local government area of the Banana Shire Council in the state of Queensland. The suburb was previously founded as a supply storehouse for railways in the early times. Its name was derived from an Aboriginal word for a certain type of Eucalyptus species, the box tree. One of the oldest structures in the suburb is the Goovigen Post Office, which opened on July 1, 1927. Agriculture is one of the main industries in Goovigen as it has become a support hub for the cotton, grain and cattle businesses. Aside from farming, there are other businesses and services in the suburb. Some of these enterprises include courier services, hairdressers, horse stud breeders and dealers.
