Aitkenvale is a suburb under the local government area of the City of Townsville in Queensland. The town was named after Thomas Aitken, who subdivided the property into residential properties after establishing a dairy farm in the region around 1867.
Aitkenvale is an important residential and commercial district in Townsville, with the city’s largest shopping centre (Stockland Townsville) located there. Because the suburb is the largest commercial district outside of the Townsville central business district, Aitkenvale is often called the second CBD.
