Kamerunga is a rural and residential area that is under the Cairns Regional Council of Queensland. Its name is thought to be derived from the Aboriginal name of the Barron Gorge, which is near the suburb. National parks around the area of Kamerunga include the Kamerunga Environmental Park, which was brought about by the 1989 Wet Tropics Tree Planting Scheme and opened in 1994.
