The suburb of Murrumba Downs is situated in the east of Kallangur, and 24 kilometres north of Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland. To the north, it is bordered by Fresh Water Creek, by Bruce Highway to the east, and by the North Pine River to the south. The suburb is under the local government area of Moreton Bay Region. The suburb’s location is part of the 10 square miles of land purchased by Australian explorer Thomas Petrie around 1858 in Pine Creek district, which he called Murrumba. The name originated from a local Aboriginal word that means “good place.”
