Both a town and locality in Queensland, Bli Bli is located 9 kilometres northwest of Maroochydore in the Sunshine Coast Region. It is believed that the town’s name came from the Aboriginal Kabi word “bilai” for the sheoak tree. The wetlands of Bli Bli used to house the Sunshine Coast’s sugar cane industry, and while sugar cane plantations are no longer there, the state government has made sure that the wetlands will continue to be an undeveloped “green space.” Today, the town has become known for a conveniently-located yet rustic residential area that enjoys proximity to Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore, Bruce Highway and Mudjimba Beach.
